At the entrance to Upper Lambourn from Ashbury, the Lambourn Shed has installed smart white speed reducing gates to help slow vehicles as they enter the village. It was a genuine team effort, with plenty of digging, banging and careful screwing together of the gates, not to mention a fair amount of tea and good humour along the way. The result looks splendid and stands as a practical contribution to the wider initiative to improve road safety and strengthen community pride.

Yet the Shed is about far more than woodwork. It is friendship, laughter and new connections. Join us on Wednesdays at Lambourn Sports Club for a drink and good conversation about life, the universe and everything. No pressure, no judgement, everyone welcome. Some people question whether village gateways make any difference. The evidence suggests they are not pointless. Research by the Transport Research Laboratory found that well designed, visually prominent gateway treatments can reduce vehicle speeds at village entry points, typically by a few miles per hour, and more when combined with other calming measures.
