Young people at the Lambourn Youth Junction took part in two exciting and educational hands-on first aid training session. The sessions were led by Paul from Red Turtle Training, a professional paramedic and trainer, who guided them through the basics of emergency first aid.
With plenty of enthusiasm, the group learned how to deal with cuts, burns, and even what to do if someone is unconscious. The sessions were organised with cycling in mind and the potential accidents which can happen when youngsters are out and about on their bikes. Learning CPR using the dummies was great however bandaging was a clear favourite! There were lots of practical demonstrations, plenty of questions, and, most importantly, lots of fun.
One of the young participants said: “I never thought first aid could be this interesting! Paul made it really easy to understand, and now I feel like I’d actually know what to do in an emergency.”
The evening was a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to gain valuable life skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. The Lambourn Youth Junction continues to provide exciting opportunities for young people in the community—so who knows what they’ll get up to next!
“First aid training is is vital and provides the young people with a key skill which may save someone’s life.” said Vicky, one of the Youth Leaders “sadly, Lambourn has roughly twice the number of emergency hospital admissions for youngsters between 15 and 24 as the national average so this is a skill which may indeed be needed in our village.”
