The Lambourn Shed was out and about again today, this time taking on a task that made a real difference to road safety in the village. Armed with a long reach brush, hot water and plenty of enthusiasm, members set to work cleaning road signs throughout Lambourn.

Over time, many signs had become obscured by mud, moss and other green growth, making them difficult to see, especially in low light. A good scrub with some hot water soon brought them back to life, gleaming and far more visible to drivers. While local residents may know the roads, junctions and sharp bends by heart, visitors passing through for the first time rely on clear signage – and a clean “School” warning sign could well be the difference between a near miss and a safe journey.

A special thank you goes to John, who earned the title of Chief Scrubber of Road Signs today for his tireless efforts and good humour throughout the morning.

We also reported a number of signs which were damaged, facing the wrong way or missing altogether.

It is quite likely that we have missed a few signs along the way, so if you spot any that are still obscured or in need of a clean, please do let us know. We will gladly add them to the list for our next outing with the clippers and scrubbing brushes.

The Lambourn Shed is all about hands-on community activity and friendly teamwork. Whether it is making planters, mending benches or keeping the village tidy, there is always something useful and enjoyable to do.

If you would like to be part of this lively group, come and join The Lambourn Shed – there are no membership fees, just plenty of good company and rewarding projects.
