We’re always on the lookout for community projects and ideas which would improve the quality of life for residents of Lambourn and the valley of the racehorse. Here are some ideas we are considering. If you’d like to be part of any of these projects please contact us:
- Lambourn Youth Council
The Lambourn Youth Council (LYC) is proposed as a formal body composed of young people aged between 11 and 17, representing the voices of the younger generation in the parish of Lambourn, West Berkshire. This initiative will give young people the opportunity to engage in local democratic processes and participate in meaningful discussions that directly impact their community. Modelled on the structure of a parish council, the Lambourn Youth Council will create a space where youth can deliberate on issues relevant to them, such as youth provision, facilities, environmental concerns, public safety, crime, and the cleanliness of the local environment. - Play Streets for Lambourn
A project based on successful implementations in other towns whereby a residential street is closed to traffic for a few hours a week to allow children to play. The initiative not only provides a great play area directly outside of the homes of the children but also encourages children and adults to meet in a ‘street party’ atmosphere. - The Lambourn Audio Guide
This is an initiative which aims to make the history of the village more accessible to residents and visitors alike. The concept is simple: short audio commentaries, free of charge, which can be accessed by visitors using their mobile phones as they view the building or object. - Lambourn Drugs Awareness
A set of activities which unite the community to create awareness about the issues associated with drugs. There are many organisations which are set up and funded to help those who are in a drug habit and other organisations which help to educate to prevent people slipping into a drug habit. Let’s bring them all together so that they can meet and get to know each other since strength and effectiveness comes from collaboration. - Cardboard Recycling
Would Lambourn benefit from more recycling facilities including a cardboard recycling bank? - A regular Car Boot Sale
Many things are thrown away which may have a perfectly good and new life in another setting. A regular car boot sale with minimal cost of entry may be the way unwanted items find a new lease of life rather than being thrown away. - Community Table Top Recycling
Rather than throwing things which are still useful away we are considering setting days where residents place items on a table outside their house and anyone who likes what they see can take it. The concept encourages a second life for objects and creates a sense of community.
