Thanks to the initiative of ten-year-old Darcy, a member of the Lambourn Youth Council, a new 100-metre running track has been marked out on the old cricket field in the village.

With a bit of adult support, the young volunteers first cut the grass, then carefully measured the distance using a string line before painting the white lines using a line-marking machine. The result: a crisp, straight(ish) sprint track ready for action.
The first race—fittingly—was between two girls both named Darcy. One of them was the organiser herself, and of course, Darcy won.

This community-led project was supported by SNG, The National Lottery iWill fund and Lambourn Parish Council.
Plans are now in place to mark out an 800-metre jogging route around the perimeter of the field later this week, once mowing is complete.
Noah, the chair of Lambourn Youth Council said: “This is exactly the kind of project the Youth Council wants to make happen for Lambourn. We have a number of other projects in planning including a film club, a summer football academy and an arts club.”
Well done to all involved—a great example of what can happen when young people are given the chance to lead.
