Lambourn Junction CIC is looking for a Community Organiser to engage with the residents of Lambourn and the surrounding area. The organiser will work with residents, local groups and partner organisations to identify needs and priorities, arrange community activities and services, and help develop sustainable projects. The role is about strengthening our community. Funding for the position has been generously provided for 2 years by SNG.
We are looking for someone with…
- a passion for working with people and making positive change
- the ability to listen, engage and build trust with people from different backgrounds
- motivation – who is organised and able to manage a varied workload with minimal supervision
- experience working with other organisations such as local government, charities etc.
- ideally some experience in writing grant applications.
- experience using office systems such as Word, Excel etc.
Here are just some of the things we are considering – we can’t do them all however the residents will help identify which ones they would value the most and probably add a few more to the list!

| Citizen’s Advice | Bring Citizens Advice to Lambourn to hold pop-up clinics for residents who require free confidential guidance on benefits, debt, housing, employment, consumer issues, relationships, immigration, health, and specialist support. |
| DWP / Job Centre | Bring Job Centre Plus outreach to Lambourn to help residents seeking jobs with finding a job and cv writing and advice |
| VIA – Drugs Advisory | Already discussed with VIA, the official provider of drug and addition counseling services for West Berkshire. Run a clinic for advice and counseling once a month in Lambourn. Cost will be mileage and potentially premises hire. |
| Drugs Awareness Workshops | Run drugs awareness workshops for local stakeholders based on workshops run in 2024. Hosted by West Berkshire drugs and addition team. |
| Age UK or equivalent “information and advice” service | team up with Age Concern or a similar charity to provide advice and guidance for elderly residents. services could include welfare and benefits advice, form filling etc. Assume costs are mileage and a token fee for an advisor. |
| Credit union or community banking services | Team up with a financial advice charity to provide assistance to residents including debt counseling. |
| Parenting support and early years advice | Team up with West Berkshire, a charity and The Lambourn Surgery to provide parenting advice for parents with young children. |
| Dyslexia Assistance | Assess the demand for dyslexia support out of school time for children. Investigate if there are organisations who could deliver such a service in Lambourn. |
| Mental health drop-in sessions | Team up with West Berkshire Mental Health Unit and a charity to provide free counseling for residents with mental health issues. 3 Lambourn residents have taken their own life in the past 3 years. |
| Youth outreach with careers guidance, skills workshops, and activities for teenagers. | Team up with DWP and a charity to provide career guidance, CV writing, skills planning for young people. Could be combined with DWP Job centre sessions – see above. |
| Young Parent Support | Consider starting a set of meetings where new parents can get together with trained facilitators in a mutual support group. Facilitated by a professional. A needs assessment to be carried out. |
| Young Carer Support | Consider sessions where young carers receive help, assistance, respite and counseling from qualified counselors. Team up with a charity who provides such services. West Berkshire run the West Berkshire Council Young Carers Project however this is in Newbury and only on weekdays from 9 to 5 and thus inaccessible to Lambourn Young Carers. |
| Healthy Eating Initiative for Young People | Team up with charities to run classes to teach young people healthy eating and food preparation skills. |
| Stop Smoking | Team up with the Lambourn Surgery, The Lambourn Pharmacy, Solutions4Health and West Berkshire to offer smoking cessation counseling. |
| Repair Cafe | Run a repair cafe which helps to extend the life of everyday appliances and objects thus saving new purchases and reducing waste. Start by asking an existing repair cafe (Shrivenham, Newbury) to offer an outreach service. |
| First Aid Courses | After the success of the courses in 1H 2025 run a first aid courses a year with a professional instructor to increase the number of residents in Lambourn who have formal first aid (adult and pediatric) training. |
| After School Cafe / Homework Club | Start a club / safe space where young people can meet and socialise as well as having a safe space after returning from secondary school in Hungerford / Newbury / Wantage. The after school clubs run by the schools are generally not accessible to Lambourn children because of the need to return to Lambourn by bus. |
| Tech help drop-ins | Provide technology assistance clinics where residents who need help configuring phones, laptops, computers can go for advice and assistance. |
| Community Bus – Operating Cost | Operate a community bus so that rural isolation is reduced by providing transport to local residents to access cinemas and other facilities in Hungerford, Newbury, Wantage. The last bus from Newbury is at 6pm so enjoying an evening out is not possible for Lambourn residents relying on public transport. |
| Recycling point | Set up a recycling point for small electrical items cardboard, food and drink cartons etc based on the very successful recycling point in East Garston. |
| Launderette | Lambourn does not have any public washing facilities after the launderette closed down some years ago. Research if a launderette / wash point would be appreciated. |
| CPD Courses for residents | Make on-line CPD courses available to residents of Lambourn as part of continuous learning and upskilling. The courses would be free of charge and made available based on a resident applying. For those not comfortable with on-line learning a person and laptop would be available to guide the participant through a course. |
Location: Home-based with regular activities in Lambourn
Hours: 10 hours per week (flexible)
Pay: £16 per hour (self-employed contract)
