Last Saturday saw the Lambourn Shed host a wonderfully successful breadmaking workshop at the Lambourn Sports Club. The event was fully booked, with eager participants ready to roll up their sleeves and get hands-on with the art and science of baking.

Under the expert guidance of Adrian Watson and his team of helpers, attendees learnt how to make a variety of breads including traditional loaves, soft rolls, pitta bread, and even sourdough pizza bases which were baked and enjoyed for lunch. The sweet finale came in the form of sticky cinnamon buns, freshly baked and shared with steaming cups of tea and coffee, a perfect reward for a morning’s work.

What made the day truly memorable was not only the delicious outcome but also the insight into the science behind breadmaking. Participants explored the role of gluten in trapping carbon dioxide bubbles, and how yeast comes to life, and sometimes fails to, depending on the order in which ingredients are combined.

One participant summed it up perfectly, saying, “I learned more at this workshop than I did on a commercial breadmaking course.”

A huge thank you goes to Adrian Watson and everyone who helped make the event possible, and to all those who made kind donations. The proceeds will help fund future community workshops, continuing the Shed’s mission to bring people together to share skills, laughter, and a sense of achievement, one loaf at a time.
