Members of the Lambourn Shed have been hard at work preparing the next set of white gates designed to slow traffic as it enters the village. Following the successful installation of gates on the Wantage and Eastbury roads, attention has now turned to the approach from Upper Lambourn. Further village entry points will follow over the coming months.

Braving cold winter conditions, Shed members gathered on Wednesday evening to begin the careful preparation work. Timber was sawn and chiselled, with plenty of patient effort going into shaping each piece ready for sanding. The next stage will see the gates painted with heavy duty white weather resistant paint before they are installed on site.
These traditional white gates are a familiar and effective form of traffic calming, helping to signal to drivers that they are entering a residential village where care and lower speeds are needed. The project reflects the Shed’s practical contribution to community safety as well as its strong sense of shared purpose.

The Lambourn Shed is about far more than woodworking. Members meet at Lambourn Sports Club on Wednesday evenings and take part in a wide range of activities, combining social time with hands on projects that benefit the whole village. It is not a men’s shed. Everyone is welcome.
